Our History
FLARE, an acronym for Forest–Lake–Adventure–Recreation–Expedition, is the trading name of Mulch Company Limited (MCL).
MCL is a consortium comprising three Dutch companies and one Ghanaian company: Avatarz Nature Park, SOVEC Venture Capital, African Tiger BV, and Pine Springs Limited. The consortium was established through a successful Dutch Government grant secured by Pine Springs Limited to support the development of the University of Ghana's Legon Botanical Gardens.
At the heart of FLARE's story is Kofi Boakye-Yiadom, founder of Pine Springs Limited and the driving force behind the partnership that brought together the University of Ghana and Mulch Company Limited. A visionary leader, Kofi is deeply committed to environmental conservation, community empowerment, and innovative approaches to poverty alleviation through sustainable forestry and agricultural practices.
His passion for environmental stewardship is rooted in a family legacy of agricultural excellence. His mother, a professional agriculturist, horticulturist, and irrigation specialist, served as the technical advisor to the late Colonel Bernasko during the administration of General I.K. Acheampong—an era often regarded as one of Ghana's most productive agricultural periods.
Throughout his career, Kofi Boakye-Yiadom has championed initiatives focused on environmental management, land development, and the creation of green spaces within Ghana's urban and peri-urban communities. His pioneering Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with the University of Ghana demonstrated how private-sector innovation and expertise can be combined with public-sector resources to create a world-class ecotourism and educational destination.
Under this partnership, Legon Botanical Gardens evolved into one of Greater Accra's premier tourism and recreation destinations. Following the termination of the partnership agreement by the University of Ghana, however, the facility was closed to the public and remained non-operational as of June 6, 2026.
FLARE: The Next Chapter
As Kofi Boakye-Yiadom often states:
"Legon Botanical Gardens was an announcement; FLARE is the statement."
In other words, Legon Botanical Gardens introduced modern recreational ecotourism to Ghana, while FLARE represents the next evolution—setting a new benchmark for adventure, leisure, environmental education, and unforgettable outdoor experiences.
